A Cincinnati Music Hall Wedding: Historic Grandeur Meets Intimate Family Tradition

A wedding is never just the joining of two people. It’s the blending of two families, two sets of traditions, and two histories that now share a table. With the backdrop of a family home and Cincinnati’s historic Music Hall, Hannah and Evan’s wedding day was an homage to how they spend time together, family and quality time honoring their loved ones. We knew their design had to complement the historic floor of Music Hall with the beauty of warm pink tones offering a little pop. Music Hall’s striking checkered floor showed up in various design elements throughout the day on the invitation suite, bar signage, and menu cards. From orchestrating the couple’s outdoor ceremony north of the city with unpredictable weather to the reception transformation, the day required flexibility and creative solutions to keep the celebration flowing.

The day started at the private residence in Lebanon of Hannah’s parents where she got ready surrounded by her bridesmaids and parents. Gowned in an elegant strapless, basque-waist ballgown, Hannah centered herself with a private prayer with her parents before the intimate ceremony began.

The couple said their vows atop a ceremony platform adorned with dahlias, Mexico’s national flower, one of the ways we incorporated Evan’s Mexican heritage into the day. Despite the early rain, and some adjustments to keep chairs as dry as possible, the ceremony remained outdoors with a pause in the weather just in time for Hannah and Evan to exchange their vows. The circular seating layout literally surrounded them by 50 of their closest people, enveloping them in love and support as they stepped into married life before departing for an evening celebration that opened the doors to everyone they love.

As the ceremony was coming to life, other House of Joy event producers were taking on the space transformation of Music Hall’s Foyer. Rather than working around the iconic brown and white checkered floor, we built the entire design plan around it starting with mirroring serpentine tables donned with a deep brown table linen playing with the existing color scheme of the space. Along with the tables, we hid existing building elements with floor to ceiling deep green draping, turning a grand foyer into an intimate reception setting. Every design choice made was done in conversation with the architecture, resulting in a layered and cohesive design marrying the iconic Cincinnati venue while honoring Hannah and Evan’s idea of a perfect wedding day.

Guests were greeted into cocktail hour set on the second story Balcony Well giving them a cheeky sneak peek into the transformation of the space. Sipping on Palomas, guests filled the room with laughter and joyful energy as they celebrated Hannah and Evan. As details of the day came together during the planning process, Hannah called out the importance of every guest leaving feeling honored; a sentiment highlighted by making sure her friend and bridesmaid, Kathryn, could blow out birthday candles while dessert was being served.

Tables were set with romantic florals made up of ranunculus, garden roses, sweet peas, calla lilies, and scabiosa in blush, burgundy, and other warm pink tones. We bathed the room in candlelight from tealights, pillar candles, and votives, enhancing the inviting and intimate setting the couple wanted as they shared a meal with their families and friends. Hannah and Evan’s wedding serves as an inspiration on how to achieve the warm evening glow of candlelight, even when the venue limits how real flames can be used in the design.

Once the dance floor opened, it never emptied, even when trays of gelato were brought out to the couple and guests. Ice cream and fruit are Hannah and Evan’s favorite way to end a meal and reminiscent of their early dates, so it was only natural to incorporate it into the festivities of the day.

The ultimate surprise of the night came in the form of a grand exit. Hannah and Evan departed their Cincinnati Music Hall wedding reception the same way they began the day, surrounded by those they love and cherish the most and engulfed in bubbles. After descending the stairs of Music Hall, the couple came face to face with their getaway car, a cherry red Lambourghini, courtesy of bride’s dad.

Hannah and Evan’s Cincinnati wedding was a balance of intimate and grand moments, both rooted in family and open to celebration. At House of Joy, we believe the best weddings don’t just reflect the couple, they reveal them. This one revealed two people who value traditions, love their families, and know how to honor everyone they love.
