Heather & Michael | The Steam Plant | Dayton Wedding

Heather and Michael-Steam Plant Wedding - Samantha Joy Events - Bouquet.jpg

Heather and Michael’s downtown Dayton Steam Plant Wedding was a fabulous start to our 2018 wedding season. Their Memorial Day weekend ceremony felt like the perfect kick-off to summer! We took advantage of the beautiful outdoor garden space at the Steam Plant for the ceremony and cocktail hour and moved everyone inside for the reception. This was actually the first outdoor ceremony at Steam Plant and I highly encourage couples to consider the outdoor space at this venue, it was a great backdrop for the ceremony. By playing with vibrant colors, copper accents, and airy details we were able to create an extremely elegant design while still incorporating hints of Heather’s boho spirit.

During the planning process Heather and I spent a lot of time talking about the look and feel she wanted to create for her big day, but she fully trusted in my design expertise to pull it all together. As a result, I was able to create custom details that made their day feel extra special and unique. It also freed up Heather and Michael to be more present on their big day. This is why I always encourage clients to include planning and design in their package whenever possible. By trusting your wedding planner with the details, you can actually relax and enjoy the wedding planning process!

With every event, I like to focus on a creating a few key focal points. The seating chart was a custom Samantha Joy Events design and served as a statement piece as the guests moved from the outdoor wedding to the indoor reception. We rented the copper structure from Something Old Dayton and then attached the seating chart information with white ribbon. The result was stunning. We also created a beautiful sweetheart table which captured guests attention as they entered the reception space. Finally, instead of a room full of round tables, we brought in several large farm tables to break up the space. Mixing tables is one of my favorite ways to add visual interest to a room. It is a simple change that makes a big difference. For the centerpieces and sweetheart table we were able to repurpose design pieces from the ceremony, so we made a big impact while being mindful of the budget.

I loved that Heather and Michael weren’t afraid to play with color! The pops of deep purples, blues, reds, and pinks paired with copper was simply gorgeous. I also loved that they we were able to create an event that truly reflected their personalities. From incorporating their dog into the ceremony to pre-wedding yoga instead of a rehearsal dinner, Heather and Michael made the day their own and the results were perfect!
